Aside from some international wildcards, this contributor included, it made for an authentic day played at the magnificent Rainbow Hills, already reviewed in an earlier issue of Golf Indonesia. A Texas Scramble format ensued for a relaxed and sociable day enjoyed by all.

Fahmi is still an amateur and this opportunity to play at the Grand Final amongst the world’s very best amateurs was a world away from the humble links of Sawangan Besar, his home course in Depok. Although he was disappointed with his performance, the conditions were challenging, with the temperature -1 at tee-off on one day, a stark contrast from playing conditions in tropical Indonesia. He now knows what it takes to compete with the world’s best amateur golfers, and is inspired to continue to improve his golf.

From the 7th of October until the 10th October 2013, Gunung Geulis Country Club in the foothills of Bogor, hosted the 11th Credit Suisse Match Play Championship. Around 150 talented amateur golfers participated in an event which stands above most local tournaments in its format of play and it quality of field, providing local single handicap golfers from all over Indonesia the chance to compete in a match-play format over the course of three days play at this unique set up of 36 championship quality holes at the West Course and the East Course at Gunung Geulis.
