Indonesian Golf Tour at Jababeka Golf and Country Club
Cikarang, July 3rd, 2014: With an aggregate score of seven-under-par (206), James Bowen of USA won the 6th edition of the Indonesian Golf Tour at Jababeka Golf & Country Club. As a special invite player, a couple weeks before his defense of the ADT Jakarta Classic at Imperial Klub Golf, Bowen made a statement by shooting 68 with 4 birdies in his winning final round, maintaining his lead from the second round, to lift the trophy.
“It’s a tricky course. The greens are firm and playing here before during the LINC Group Jakarta Invitational earlier this year helped me with my game plan. I was very patient and didn’t make mistakes so that is great. I’m an invited player so I wanted to play well. I wanted to give myself a good chance. I played well in the final round. I made one bogey today, but I’m quite pleased with my game,” said James.
“Many thanks to the Indonesian Golf Tour, the game of golf is growing here in Indonesia. A lot of young players are improving. I played with two of the young players today (Joshua Andrew Wirawan and Putra Abhinawa Sahari) and they both have a very good game. I’m thankful that I had the opportunity to play.” Added James.
Finishing just behind Bowen was Joshua Andrew Wirawan who came in second with a total score of two-under par 211. Local player Joshua was impressive all tournament especially after leading the field after round one.
Rory Hie returned to the domestic tour, and finished in a creditable 7th place, and it is fair to say he is struggling to find his impressive form of 2013. Order of Merit leader George Gandranata surprisingly finished well back in 11th place, surprisingly considering his second place finish here at Jababeka in the ADT’s Jakarta Invitational earlier in the year amongst a stronger field of ADT players.
In the amateur stakes, Korean locally based player: Joeh Se Ik and female Rivani Adelia Sihotang again proved their quality securing best male and female amateur at this event. Jo Se Ik finished with eight-over-par (217) while Rivani finished up with an impressive one-under par 212. Female player Juriah pushed Rivani all the way during the final round, and despite a double-bogey on Hole #3 Rivani still went on to claim her third victory as best female amateur this year.
“It was so tense! It feels like you are in a race, but I made it to the finish line. The course is amazing. It helped me to improve my skills for sure. I learnt a lot from this course.” Said Rivani.
“I’m happy to be able to win, but I don’t want to be cocky. My plan is to become professional and go on to the LPGA tour. So glad that now we have the local tour (Indonesian Golf Tour) for amateurs like me to gain more experience and skills on this tour. We move around and play all kinds of different courses, helping us to read and learn about each courses characteristics.” Added 2-time Best Female Amateur Champion Rivani Adelia Sihotang.
The Indonesian Golf Tour at Jababeka Golf & Country Club is the 6th in a series of twelve three day events that are being hosted by selected courses in the greater Jakarta area with each boasting Rp 200,000,000 in prize purses.
All 12 events earn ranking points for participating golf professionals and amateurs, setting the stage for the Road to the Indonesian Golf Championship to be hosted at Rawamangun Golf Club: December 10th – 13th 2014. At this final event: The Top 30 players and Top 10 amateurs will play for the grand prize purse of Rp 500,000,000 with all Golf professionals guaranteed winnings in the 4-day tournament as well as the three top professionals securing themselves a country exemption spot on the Asian Development Tour for the 2015 season.
