Inside The Golfer’s Bag: Rory Hie
“On the road to the Panasonic Open: Inside the Golfer’s Bag with Rory Hie”
We caught up with a jubilant and relaxed Rory Hie after the third and final leg of the Road to Panasonic Open series. After winning the first two legs of the tournament Rory had already qualified for the Panasonic Open in Japan at the Ibaraki Golf Club Osaka, on the 26th – 29th of September, despite his result at Smart Viera Round at Pantai Indah Kapuk on the 17th – 19th of June. It is the second year in a row that Rory has qualified for this prestigious Japanese Tour event with total prize money of US $ 1.5 million available for the taking one of the biggest purses in Asia.
Rory used the third leg as a good opportunity to experiment with a new long putter, as he is looking to improve on last years putting statistics. Rory averaged about 32 putts per round in 2012, and he is determined to reduce the number to 30 putts or below. We are looking forward to following Rory’s progress at the inaugural Jakarta Classic event being played at Imperial Karawaci from: The 17th – 20th of July.

Other Essentials I always carry in my bag:
iPING cradle: A useful and fun app from apple which allows me to monitor my putting stroke. In the app there is a handicap system and I went from a 1 handicap up to a +2.5 (+ is better) it measures the consistency of your stroke. It also measures angles so I know what my angles are when I am putting well.
Senheisser Earphones CX200: I like to listen to my tunes when I’m working on my game at the range. I am a big fan of Avenged Sevenfold, though they are a metal band I find them to be much more melodic than an average metal head. My favorite albums are “Nightmare” and “City of Evil” and just loop them around. But also like to mix up Greenday, Muse, Lady Gaga, and Eminem…
- Walking 18 holes can burn in excess of 1500 calories, plus the added effort of intense concentration. It is important to keep energy levels up. I like to snack on a banana or two every 9 holes, it’s a great source of healthy and natural energy.
